Notts County upbeat over ruling

Notts County

Notts County are confident of gaining approval imminently from the Football League regarding Munto Finance's takeover of the League Two club.

League officials met on Thursday to decide whether to ratify the deal.

They delayed their ruling but held more discussions with executive chairman Peter Trembling in the last 48 hours.

Trembling told County's website: "We have now provided the League with the additional information requested and we hope to hear from them very shortly."

He added: "The club is encouraged by the free and frank spirit of its continuing dialogue with the Football League, as part of which it is happy to make clear that it has severed all ongoing connections with Mr Russell King.

"Mr King's involvement with the club was limited to a short period following the recent acquisition and pending the new board being put in place.

"All future decisions affecting the club are now squarely and exclusively in the hands of the board members."

King is understood to have played a major role in negotiations with the club's supporters' trust over the sale of County to Munto Finance in July.

The consortium immediately appointed Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football and made goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the club's record signing.

But newspaper headlines questioning the validity of the club's new owners have dogged their first three months in charge.

County parted company with manager Ian McParland on Monday, despite lying in fifth place in League Two.
