Notts County boss Ian McParland said the Magpies' frustrating 2-0 defeat by Grimsby sums up their season.
McParland told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's the same old story - it's been like it all season.
"We dominated the game. But if we cannot go and kill teams off and switch off from set plays, then we will lose those games."
The Magpies had numerous chances in Monday's match but were denied by Mariners keeper Wayne Henderson.

Midfielder Danny Boshell also had to clear Delroy Facey's header off the line.
McParland added: "The first five minutes of the second half we started like school boys. I cannot believe it - we didn't take our chances."
Notts face Morecambe away on Saturday.
