Martin scored his second goal in three league games on Saturday
Norwich City's goal-scoring full-back Russell Martin has insisted that defending is his priority.
The 25-year-old's last minute strike in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Cardiff took his tally to four for the season.
"I'm there to defend first and foremost, but the full-backs play attacking in the formation we have," Martin told BBC Radio Norfolk.
"If you score a goal it's a massive bonus and there may be time for one or two more before the end of the season."
Martin, Simeon Jackson and Andrew Crofts are joint fourth in City's scoring charts this campaign, behind Wes Hoolahan, Chris Martin and leading scorer Grant Holt. The leading three also topped the charts last season.
"It seems we've shared the goals around equally this year, a few of the midfielders have got a few, whereas last year it was dominated by the Holy Trinity, as it's called," said Martin.
"It's the way we play, we try and run over teams.
"The gaffer's got us really fit in pre-season and I think it shows, towards the end of games we finish strongly."
Midfielder Simon Lappin, who supplied the cross for Martin's goal at the weekend, was full of praise for his team-mate.
"Russell's been doing that all season, he's been outstanding," he said.
"He's got great energy and he got his reward. The manager's the same, he wants us to play like that on the front foot, and that's the way it will remain for the rest of the season."
The 27-year-old Scot, who signed a new deal at Carrow Road last week, says the fourth-placed Canaries are striving to be genuine promotion contenders in the Championship.
"It's great to be part of that and hopefully we can keep driving on and working hard at it," he added.
"We've got that belief in our squad and as long as we keep believing, we've got a chance."
