Doherty has played his way back after being dropped by Paul Lambert
Norwich City defender Gary Doherty says City have what it takes to beat most teams at home, whatever their approach.
City have won their last six games at Carrow Road and are third in League One after Saturday's 2-0 win over Oldham.
Doherty told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Some teams try to attack us, they get opened up and teams come here to defend, at the moment they're getting opened up.
"Teams are in limbo when they come here, that's encouraging for us that teams are changing their formation."
Republic of Ireland international Doherty thinks it is strange that they have yet to beat one of the top-five teams.
"Since I've been at Norwich we always beat the top teams and lose to the so-called smaller teams," he said.
"Even last year we took four points off Wolves, and points off Birmingham, who got promoted.
"We need to win the big games, it's something we've really got to do because they're the key games."
After being initially dropped by Paul Lambert, Doherty has played his way back into the team, forming a solid partnership with Dane Jens Berthel Askou.
And with Lambert's three-pronged strike force sharing 40 goals already this season, Doherty says they are in good shape to challenge for automatic promotion.
"Jens is playing great and my form is decent as well, I'm happy with that, but the front three have been on fire, in midfield everyone's working hard and the full-backs did great today," he said.
"We've just got to keep it going, we've got a couple of massive games coming up and we really want to close the gap on [second-placed] Charlton by Christmas."
