Norwich defence impresses Forster

Forster has kept seven clean sheets in 12 games at Norwich City

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster says the Norwich defence must take their share of the credit for the team's miserly goals against record.

Forster kept his seventh clean sheet in 12 games since joining the club as the Canaries beat Tranmere 2-0 on Saturday.

"It's another clean sheet, so I'm delighted with that. The back four's been absolutely brilliant since I've come here," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"Whoever's been playing has put in a good shift and done their best."

The 21-year-old is on loan at Carrow Road from Newcastle until January and has let in just eight goals for the Canaries.

But Norwich's recent record is even more impressive, conceding just three goals let in their last eight matches.

That has helped the team win six of their last seven league games to climb to fifth in League One, reach the second round of the FA Cup and the area semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

But Forster said the team's defensive record would mean nothing without the goals going in at the other end.

And he heaped praise on City's front three - Grant Holt, Chris Martin and Wes Hoolahan - who together have scored 20 of Norwich's last 25 goals.

"The front three have been unbelievable," said Forster. "I can't believe Wes isn't in the Ireland squad, it's unbelievable.

"He looks so dangerous if you get him the ball, Holty's been fantastic scoring the goals and Chrissy Martin; give him half a chance and he'll stick it away, he's an unbelievable finisher."

But despite Hoolahan and Gary Doherty scoring the goals that beat Tranmere, it was Forster who took top billing after pulling off what manager Paul Lambert described as a "world-class save" from Chris Shuker.

But Forster modestly played down his efforts and said: "I was amazed that the first guy didn't shoot, I was amazed that he cut it back.

"I just did my best to keep it out of the net. On Saturday it stayed out, other days it would have gone in, that's just life."
