Fotheringham was appointed Norwich captain by Glenn Roeder
Norwich City manager Bryan Gunn has said he was disappointed with how Mark Fotheringham reacted to being substituted in the defeat by Coventry.
The Canaries captain, 25, was replaced during the second half and stormed straight down the Carrow Road tunnel.
Fotheringham was booed by some sections of the home support but will keep the captain's armband.
Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I was disappointed with his reaction as captain of the club."
Fotheringham joined the Canaries in January 2007 when Peter Grant was manager.
The former Celtic midfielder was appointed captain shortly after Glenn Roeder replaced Grant but his place in the Norwich starting line-up could now be under threat.
"I can understand his reaction because of the frustrations of the crowd, but you need to be big enough to take it," Gunn said.
"We need people in the team who are positive, who are focused on the job ahead, who are committed to the club."
The 2-1 defeat by Coventry means Norwich are now second from bottom of the Championship, four points from safety.
