Gary Doherty will wear the captain's arm-band for the rest of the season

Norwich City captain Gary Doherty was left frustrated after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

The Tangerines took the lead after 55 minutes when Brett Ormerod's cross-come-shot ended up in Norwich's net.

"They scored a bizarre goal which killed us," Doherty told BBC Radio Norfolk. "I'm guessing he was trying to cross it.

"If he was trying to shoot from there he must be one hell of a player. And the second was disappointing as well."

A win for the Canaries would have lifted them out of the Championship relegation zone, level on points with Blackpool.

As it is, the Canaries' 12th away league defeat of the season leaves them still three points adrift of safety.

"There will be some harsh words said," said Doherty. "But we need to try and pick some of the lads up.

"We've got a number of flair players and, if you have a go at them, their heads will drop and you won't get the best out of them."

The Canaries are back in action on Tuesday night when they host promotion-chasing Cardiff City at Carrow Road (10 March, 1945 GMT).
