Northampton striker Leon McKenzie has apologised to the club's fans after his side's 4-3 League Two loss to Hereford.
The 32-year-old scored a hat-trick and was substituted after a knock to his knee, but the Cobblers conceded four times to lose a fourth-straight game.
McKenzie told BBC Radio Northampton: "We've got ourselves to blame - we've got excited and tried to score more, but we've got to learn to win 1-0.
"I'm devastated for the club and I'm really sorry for the fans."
McKenzie scored his first goals in a Northampton shirt against Hereford, after joining the club in September.

"It isn't the Leon McKenzie show because it's about us as a team," he added.
"But I always said that if I got chances, I would get my goals and help Northampton to where they should be.
"The substitution was because I had a bad knee and it was precautionary.
"We still had a good enough team to win the game."
