Cobblers defenders enjoying roles

Northampton Town defenders Craig Hinton and Paul Rodgers are enjoying having settled roles in the side.

The pair were rotated by ex-manager Stuart Gray, but have been regular starters at centre-half and left-back respectively under Ian Sampson.

Hinton told BBC Radio Northampton: "I'm happier playing centre half. [Under Stuart Gray] I was playing left and right-back for the team.

"But I'm disappointed we're not keeping as many clean sheets as I'd like."

Meanwhile Rodgers, 20, who is a natural right-back, has started the last five games on the left side of defence due to the continued good form of Middlesbrough loan signing, John Johnson.

But the youngster said he is just happy to be part of Sampson's set-up.

Rodgers added: "I'm just pleased to be playing. The manager has shown confidence in me, and Craig [Hinton] and Chris [McCready] have been getting me through the games, and talking to me.

"It's getting easier, and I'm enjoying my football."
