Northampton Town defender Pat Kanyuka says he can impress at the League Two club during his three-month deal.
The 22-year-old was without a team over the summer, having had surgery on his knee in early May.
Kanyuka told BBC Radio Northampton: "After being out of the game for a while, short term will fire me up. Every game is like a cup final.
"Northampton have given me an opportunity so I'm very thankful. I really want to show what I can do."
Kanyuka has previously played at Leyton Orient and Queens Park Rangers before moving to Swindon Town in January 2008.
He was offered a short-term deal by Swindon boss Danny Wilson in May but departed the club soon after.
Congo-born Kanyuka is in contention to play against Torquay at the weekend as first choice centre-back Dean Beckwith is out with a groin strain.
