Mallinder coached the England Academy and England Under-21s |
Northampton Saints' Jim Mallinder says the international call-ups from his squad are good for the club. The Saints director of rugby will be without Dylan Hartley, Shane Geraghty, Ben Foden and Courtney Lawes, who have all made England's elite player squad. Mallinder told BBC Radio Northampton: "It can only be good for them. Hopefully they'll come back to help us develop into a better side. "We want all our players to strive to be international rugby players." Courtney Lawes, 20, was a surprise inclusion in the side, having been promoted from the Saxons squad and having never been capped previously. "Courtney has made massive strides over the last year. He was putting in some big performances last season, particularly in the Challenge Cup final," added Mallinder. "But he's backed that up against quality opposition this season." Mallinder has tipped all his players to make an impact during the autumn internationals. "They've all got something special. Dylan Hartley has been leading us by example. Shane Geraghty has played a pivotal role in midfield. Ben Foden from full-back is a magical player. "I don't know if Courtney [Lawes] will start but he's got that ability to turn a game."
