McKay has scored once for the Cobblers this season
Northampton Town's Billy McKay is in the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad for two European qualifying matches.
They travel to the Czech Republic on the 4 September and face Iceland at home on 8 September.
"His speed of thought is excellent and his real strength is in and around the 18-yard box." Cobblers boss Stuart Gray told BBC Radio Northampton.
"It's a fantastic reward for the player. He was very unlucky to have his goal ruled out [vs Bournemouth].
The call up means McKay will miss the Northampton Town game against Wycombe Wanderers in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday, and against Barnet at Sixfields on Friday.
