Northants collapse aids Glamorgan

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Northampton:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Northants 350, Glamorgan 149-3
(Northants 5pts, Glamorgan 3pts)
26-29 August 2009

Stephen Peters
Peters was eventually dismissed by Robert Croft for 163

Northants failed to capitalise on an innings of 163 by opener Stephen Peters as Glamorgan fought back well on day two at Wantage Road.

The home side collapsed from 289-4 to 350 all out, Robert Croft (3-53) and James Harris (3-92) proving the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers.

South African all-rounder Andrew Hall narrowly missed out on a century, eventually falling for 89.

Glamorgan reached 149-3 at the close to leave the match evenly poised.

Accurate spells from Northants seamers David Lucas, Jack Brooks and David Wigley forced Glamorgan's openers Will Bragg and Gareth Rees to start cautiously.

Both openers were dismissed within two overs to leave the Welsh county 77-2, and Herschelle Gibbs looked in ominous form before being stumped by Riki Wessels off the bowling of Monty Panesar for 42.

Earlier, Peters fell 15 runs short of his career-best 178, made against his first county Essex three years ago, mistiming a sweep shot off Glamorgan's former England off-spinner Croft to short fine-leg.
