Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray praised his team's battling qualities following Tuesday's 3-3 draw at home to Scunthorpe United.
The result lifted the Cobblers out of the League One relegation zone on goal difference with three matches left.
"I thought the approach was fantastic," Gray told BBC Radio Northampton.
"But we keep shooting ourselves in the foot by gifting teams goals - and you can't do that against a side like Scunthorpe United."
He added: "They have an abundance of ability up front.
"That said, we showed plenty of character and were rewarded by getting something out of the game."
Northampton are now level on points with the two sides immediately below them - Carlisle and Crewe - and have a game in hand.
They entertain Hereford and MK Dons at Sixfields before finishing their season at Leeds United a week on Saturday.
