Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray has admitted being forced to 'beg' for a loan striker in time for Saturday's League One derby at Peterborough.
The Cobblers are still without Adebayo Akinfenwa, who completes a four-match suspension following his red card at Brighton last month.
"We're trying our socks off," Gray told BBC Radio Northampton.
"But I'm having to beg at the moment to get a striker in. We just keep our fingers crossed," he added.
"Last week we thought we had a Championship striker coming here.
"We'd agreed it with the club, but when their manager asked the player he didn't want to come."
Northampton's 1-0 defeat at Millwall on Tuesday night saw them slip to 18th place in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
