Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray admitted their second-half rally was not enough to avoid a 1-0 defeat at Millwall on Tuesday night.
The Lions won through a 35th-minute Gary Alexander goal, sending Town down to 18th place in the League One table.
"It was a bit like last Saturday, we gifted them a goal. We gave away sloppy possession, it's a tap-in," Gray said.
"We had a bit of a response in the second half. But we couldn't convert the chances we created."
"We didn't pick up the pace of the game quickly enough, but I thought we'd weathered the storm until [the goal] happened," he rued.
Gray's team remain just three points above the relegation zone, ahead of Saturday's derby match at old rivals Peterborough United.
