Council halts plans for Sixfields

Sixfields
Sixfields Stadium will continue to have a similar appearance

Northampton Town's plans for redevelopment around their Sixfields ground have been dealt a blow.

Northampton Borough Council says it is unlikely that any retail development for the area will be agreed.

Anthony Collet from the Supporters' Trust believes it will be the fans that suffer as the redevelopment would have brought in new revenue to the club.

"It will mean more cost cutting and the people to lose out will be the supporters," he told BBC Northampton.

Cobblers chairman David Cardoza recently claimed that the club did not have a future if the council failed to come up with solid plans for Sixfields.

The ground has been Northampton's home since 1994, when they moved from the County Ground - which they shared with the Northants county cricket team.
