Lincoln City midfielder Richard Butcher has turned down a deal to have his spell with the League Two club ended by mutual consent.
Butcher, who's contract with the Imps expires at the end of next season, was offered compensation in exchange for leaving Sincil Bank club now.
Imps manager Chris Sutton told BBC Lincolnshire: "Richard Butcher is a problem because of his wages.
"He doesn't seem to be overly keen on moving on in any shape or form."
The 29-year-old returned for a third spell with City under then manager Peter Jackson in July 2009.
He has not featured in the Imps first team since the 2-0 defeat by Rotherham in November.
Lincoln have also offered midfielder Sam Clucas a similar opportunity to leave the club.
