Leicester City's Martyn Waghorn eager to prove a point

Martyn Waghorn
Wagorn is mobbed after his winner against Bristol City

Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn hopes his dramatic winner against Bristol City will help him win back his place in the starting line-up.

Wagorn, 21, has mainly been used as a substitute by boss Sven-Goran Eriksson but came off the bench to score a crucial last-gasp goal in Friday's win.

"Hopefully the goal will prove a point," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

"It's been a frustrating few months but I've had to get on with it and wait for my chance."

Waghorn, who joined Leicester on a permanent deal in the summer, played a big part in the club's run to the Championship play-off semi-finals last season.

But he has failed to win a regular starting spot this term, starting just 11 games

And he has seen new signings Yakubu and Darius Vassell help propel the club from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls.

Waghorn added: "The crowd have stuck with me. There's been a lot of talk about me going on loan to our local rivals [Derby County] and it's been a tough decision for me.

"It's a good set of lads who I have been replaced by. Yakubu is different class and the boys have been playing great so I can't be too disappointed because no one's been playing bad.

"I keep working hard, I'm young, I have plenty more years in the game and Leicester's a good club."
