Burr and Whild sign new Kidderminster Harriers deal
Steve Burr joined Kidderminster from Stalybridge Celtic in January 2010
Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr has signed a new three-year deal, tying him to the promotion-chasing Blue Square Bet Premier club until 2014.
And his assistant Gary Whild has also signed a two-year contract extension.
The much-admired Burr, 51, who took over in January 2010, was always keen to stay but still had to seek assurances over the club's finances.
"From my point of view the main thing was the stability of the club and the way forward," said Burr.
"From what I have been told I am sure that the future looks a lot better than it did three months ago," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester."
Burr, the subject of an approach from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Grimsby Town earlier this month, has really caught the eye since taking over at Aggborough in January 2010.
He led Harriers to the FA Trophy semis a year ago and, despite a five-point penalty, has them sitting fifth this season after an 11-game unbeaten run.
And it is not only Grimsby who have noticed what a big impact he has made in the 14 months since being appointed Mark Yates' successor.
Having originally joined the Harriers from Stalybridge Celtic on a deal until the end of the 2011/12 season, the club now have the security of having tied him up on a much longer contract.
Steve Burr has shown himself to be one of the very best in non-league football
Harriers chairman Mark Serrell
"This gives them a long period to continue the tremendous work they've been doing," said Harriers chairman Mark Serrell. "It allows them to plan for the longer-term future.
"Steve has shown himself to be one of the very best at his job in non-league football and his partnership with Gary has been a real success.
"Stability is something the club have been crying out for previously. We're delighted to have secured Steve and Gary's services for this length of time."
Burr and Whild have used their contacts in the non-league game to bring in younger players who have coped so well in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season.
But, while Harriers are now out of immediate financial danger, Burr is still not necessarily expecting serious money to strengthen his squad.
"That would be nice," he said, "but reading between the lines, although we have come through the worst of it, we are not all of a sudden flush with money.
"So we are not going to be in a position to go out and buy players.
"Myself and Gary will still be looking lower down to bring in players and then make them compete at this level."
