Matthews scored pre-season hat-tricks against Southampton and Exeter

Salisbury striker Robbie Matthews has left the club to join Kidderminster on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract at Aggborough after sitting out Salisbury's 1-0 win against Harriers on Tuesday.

He had enjoyed an impressive pre-season with the Whites, scoring eight goals in five pre-season games.

Harriers boss Mark Yates said: "He has a great deal of pace and will definitely score goals."

Yates added: "We were interested in Robbie early on in the summer but things didn't happen.

"His circumstances have now changed and we're delighted we've been able to secure his services."

Matthews told BBC Hereford and Worcester he was pleased to have secured his future following a turbulent summer at Salisbury.

"There are money troubles at Salisbury and it was up and down all summer," he said.

"I was waiting and waiting and I have a baby boy and bills to pay so, at the end of the day, I had to look after myself.

"Kidderminster offered me a two-year deal so that was security and after speaking to my girlfriend we felt that was the right thing to do."

After all the uncertainty Matthews said he was now keen to get into action and prove to the Harriers fans just why Yates was so keen to secure his signature.

"I want to get my head down and start winning games and scoring goals," added Matthews.

"I like to think of myself as an all-rounder as I like it to feet and in the air.

"I just think I can offer Kidderminster a get-out ball and a bit of a focal point to relieve pressure on the defence.

"A lot of people look at me and think I am a big target man but I like the ball to feet."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper James Bittner and captain Darrell Clarke have signed new deals with Salisbury having been out of contract since the end of last season.
