McPhee pleased to be a Harrier

Kidderminster Harriers' latest signing Chris McPhee is delighted to have moved to Aggborough and is hoping to play a part in their play-off bid.

McPhee told BBC Hereford and Worcester he was pleased with his debut in the 2-0 home win over Eastbourne.

"It was a decent game to play in and the fans around the place were brilliant," he said.

"It was an enjoyable game and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so it is great to be here."

Best known as an attacking midfield player, McPhee had played only 13 minutes of his Harriers debut when the sending-off of Craig Armstrong led to him facing an immediate change of role, switching from the middle of the park to the heart of defence.

"Throughout the past few seasons I have been dotted all over the place which shows a lot of respect from the manager if he feels he can put you in different positions," he said.

"I've played at centre-half already this season for Weymouth so I am comfortable in there.

"Playing alongside the likes of Mark Creighton and Keith Lowe, as well as Martin Riley, who has recently played for England C, it makes it easy to slot in alongside those sort of players," he added.

McPhee is relieved to have been able to put the past few months at Weymouth behind him after a period in which the players at the Wessex Stadium went without wages.

He was one of 14 players who refused to play in the Dorset club's home match against Rushden & Diamonds last month as they would not be insured.

And he is one of a number of them who have now moved on to pastures new.

The boys down at Weymouth were devastated, although it does sound as though the club could be saved, but coming up here is terrific for me

He has signed a deal at Aggborough for the rest of the season and knows it is a good chance for him to stake a claim for a longer contract.

"It has been a troubled couple of months," he said. "The boys have been promised a lot and then the plug has been pulled out.

"The boys down at Weymouth were devastated, although it does sound as though the club could be saved, but coming up here is terrific for me.

"I looked at the table a couple of weeks ago and they [Kidderminster] were three points outside the play-offs with a game in hand on one or two clubs, so it was a prospect I have been looking forward to."
