Kidderminster Harriers have signed former Weymouth midfielder Chris McPhee until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old former Brighton and Ebbsfleet player left the troubled Terras earlier this week.
Harriers manager Mark Yates told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "I think he'll be a really big asset for us as he can play in a number of positions.
"He's powerful, competitive and scores goals and I think he's what we have been after for a little while."
McPhee's departure from Weymouth was precipitated by the increasing financial problems at the Dorset club that led to them fielding what was largely a youth team in the 9-0 home defeat by Rushden & Diamonds.
It won't affect the top end of the game but I am sure it will affect the lower levels and unfortunately that means us and our division
Kidderminster boss Mark Yates on the financial climate
Yates admits he does not know all the details behind the problems at Weymouth, but feels the league's authorities will be monitoring them closely.
"It's not a nice situation for them to be in and it doesn't look good on the Blue Square Premier that Rushden go down there and put nine past them," he said.
"You saw in the Non League Paper the youthfulness of the side and, in the picture on the front, you couldn't tell who was the mascot and who was the player.
"It's not a good situation and I just hope that it can be resolved," he added.
Weymouth are not they only Blue Square Premier club facing serious financial problems as Salisbury City, Lewes and a number of others have also reported they are struggling, while League Two club Darlington went into administration this week.
Yates feels there is going to have to be a collective tightening of belts if clubs are to ward off the worst effects of the credit crunch.
"I'm not going to get too political but it [the credit crunch] does have an effect," he said.
"It won't affect the top end of the game but I am sure it will affect the lower levels and unfortunately that means us and our division."
