Theo Robinson's late penalty gave Southend victory over Hereford and kept them in the play-off hunt.

Robinson fired high past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi after Francis Laurent had been fouled by Darren Dennehy.

Southend had other chances through Lee Barnard, who volleyed wide while Osei Sankofa fired fractionally off target.

Hereford went close with Toumani Diagouraga shooting inches off target, while Southend keeper Ian Joyce saved a Sam Hewson free-kick.
