Kettering Town have signed Torquay United winger Mustapha Carayol on a three-month loan deal.
Carayol will go straight into the Poppies team to face Crawley Town this weekend in the Blue Square Premier.
"He's a very quick, direct player. He can score a goal, can play left side or right side and can play up front," Cooper told BBC Radio Northampton.
"He gives us another option up front which is what I think we need so he'll go straight into the team."
Kettering lost two nil at York last weekend and dropped down from 2nd to 5th in the league.
"We want to try and score more goals. We've added another dimension, real electrifying pace and directness," added Cooper.
"We want to try and get another one in so it puts pressure on people to be at it week in week out because there are probably one or two that know they are going to play every week which is not great.
"We've had a good run. We had a setback (at York) and its important that we don't get too high with the wins and too low with the defeats," said Cooper.
"We know what went wrong and it's making sure we identify that which we've tried to do this week and put it right on Saturday."
