Ipswich Town have signed Portsmouth's Bosnia international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a three-month loan.

The 22-year-old, who arrived at Fratton Park in 2003, will stay at Portman Road until 16 January.

Town manager Roy Keane said: "I've always liked three keepers in my squad to maintain competition and Asmir comes here to push for a first-team place."

He has previously had loan spells at Belgian club La Louviere as well as Macclesfield, Bournemouth and Yeovil.

Begovic has dual Canadian citizenship and was a member of their Under-20 World Cup squad in 2007 alongside Ipswich midfielder Jaime Peters.

Ipswich have also been boosted by the news that captain Alex Bruce could return to action in against Swansea City on Saturday after recovering from a groin injury.

Keane told the club website: "He has trained all week and providing there is no change, he should be available for the weekend."
