Terriers striker 'not for sale'

Jordan Rhodes
Rhodes scored a hat-trick of headers against Exeter

Huddersfield Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens has issued a 'hands-off' warning to clubs interested in signing striker Jordan Rhodes.

The 19-year-old is League One's leading scorer and took his season's tally to 11 goals with a hat-trick on Saturday.

Clibbens told the club's website: "We are now very fortunate to be in such a financially secure position that we no longer have to sell.

"Selling our best players for short term profit is not part of the plan."

Huddersfield signed Rhodes from Ipswich Town for a fee believed to be in the region of £300,000 in the summer and a number of scouts watched his goalscoring exploits against Exeter at the weekend.

"It is not a surprise our players are attracting attention," Clibbens said.

It is nonsense to compromise our plans to be successful by selling our best players

"However, anyone who has studied Town in the new era will quickly understand we are not your usual League One club - we are different and have a different approach.

"Led by chairman Dean Hoyle we are focused on the long term - recruiting and developing talented young players and creating an environment that gives them the best chance of success.

"There is absolutely no question of the club seeking short term, quick profits - however large.

"Money is not a motivation for Dean, in any shape or form, at Huddersfield Town. He is not involved for personal financial gain - he is successful enough in his own business.

"It is nonsense to compromise our plans to be successful by selling our best players when there is no footballing or financial reason to do so."
