Walters chasing fitness for derby

Jon Walters
Jon Walters recently extended his Ipswich Town contract until 2012

Jon Walters could be fit to return to the Ipswich Town side for Sunday's East Anglian derby against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The striker missed the draw with Sheffield United due to niggling injuries which Town believe could be related to back trouble.

Physio Matt Byard told the club website: "Jon has complained of soreness in two or three areas.

"We're hoping now that the problem will settle down over the next few days."

Ipswich expect Walters to return to light training shortly and hope to step up his fitness in time for the first meeting of the season with their East Anglian rivals.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland B international has scored 20 goals since joining Ipswich from Chester City in January 2007.

In October, Walters signed an improved contract which keeps him at Portman Road until 2012.
