Winger Gary Roberts has signed a new three-year deal with League One club Huddersfield Town.

The 25-year-old, who signed from Ipswich, was Town's top goal scorer with 11 in his debut season and was named the club's player of the year.

"I know where this club is going and so actually signing my contract is a big day for me," said Roberts.

"The gaffer is here for three years and has a three-year plan, which it is great to be a part of."

The former Crewe and Accrington player's original contract at Huddersfield was due to expire in 2010, but this new deal will take him up to 2012.

Roberts explained: "I get on with the manager really well and that has played a massive part in my decision to stay.

I cannot see any reason why this club cannot be in the top flight in the not-too-distant future.

"He has been great with me since he first arrived in December, he believes in me and gives me the freedom to express myself out on the pitch, which is all you can ask for as a footballer.

"Believe me when I say that the chairman [Dean Hoyle] here is ultra-ambitious and I cannot see any reason why this club cannot be in the top flight in the not-too-distant future.

"I genuinely mean that, I'm not just saying that to get the fans going, I believe it in my heart.

"You hear players saying how much the fans mean to them all the time, but they do genuinely make a difference to my game.

"When I hear them chanting my name or cheering me on it means a lot to me and the way that the season tickets have sold again it will be the same next term.

"I will do my best to entertain the fans again next season."
