Wakefield stand-off Jamie Rooney has joined Championship side Barrow Raiders until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has made just three Super League appearances this season after his heart stopped during routine knee surgery earlier in the year.

He will go straight into the Raiders squad for their Championship clash against Toulouse at Craven Park.

"Jamie is a class act and has a proven record. I've been chasing him for weeks," said Barrow chief Des Johnston.

"Wakefield have a number of quality half-backs at their disposal and I have finally persuaded John Kear and the Wakefield board to part with one of them."

Rooney, who began his career at Featherstone, joined Wakefield for £10,000 in 2002 and has made four appearances for England.
