Terriers sign Coventry's Simpson

League One side Huddersfield Town have signed striker Robbie Simpson from Coventry City, subject to a medical.

The 24-year-old has agreed a three-year deal and BBC Radio Leeds understands will cost Town £300,000.

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark told the official Town website: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have Robbie Simpson moving to the club.

"He is a young, hungry player who wants to get better and that is exactly what I want."

The forward or right winger joined Championship side Coventry from Cambridge United in 2007 for a fee of up to £130,000, with a 5% sell-on clause, set by a tribunal.

The former Cambridge City man then went on to score just five minutes into his Sky Blues debut against Notts County in August 2007, but claimed another six goals in his following 70 appearances.

Clark added: "People who are looking at his recent goalscoring record need to realise that he has played 95% of his games out of position for Coventry.

"Chris Coleman [Coventry manager], who I know very well, prefers a 4-3-3 formation and Robbie has been out on the right wing but he prefers playing through the middle - that is where he played for Cambridge and he scored a lot of goals.

"Robbie will give us a physical presence in attack; he works very hard and has a hammer of a right foot. I am looking forward to working with him."
