Terriers need young boss - Murphy

Murphy is enjoying his third spell in caretaker charge of Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town caretaker manager Gerry Murphy has again insisted that he does not want the job full time.

The Terriers are still looking for a successor to Stan Ternent, who was sacked last month.

Murphy told BBC Radio Leeds: "It would be selfish of me to say that I'd like the job.

"It's stability the club needs more than anything else and I think we need a younger man that's got a great work ethic and great love for the job."

Murphy added: "[He needs to be] passionate about what he does and he won't find a better club out there than this to go forward with.

This is Murphy's third spell in caretaker charge, and some supporters have been calling for him to be given the job permanently.

"Football's like this - if we're winning games, then yes, people might want that.

"If we lose games, they might want to bury me, I'm well aware of that.

"We'll do our best for the club and whatever's in the best interest of the club, we will do."

We need stability and continuity at the club - the club is bigger than any one individual

Chairman-elect Dean Hoyle has indicated that the search for a new manager could take "one, two, three, maybe four months.", and Murphy is happy to remain in charge until a successor is found.

"The main thing is the club," Murphy said.

"It's very important that the board gets it right this time.

"We need stability and continuity here - the club is bigger than any one individual.

"If the board feel that they want me to stop for however long, carry on and take the reigns for that period of time, then I'm only too happy to do it."
