Hereford's Ryan Green happy with new defensive role

Right-back Ryan Green says he is enjoying his new role in the centre of the Hereford United defence.

With Tony James returning to Burton and Janos Kovacs out with a shoulder injury, Green has been partnering Mike Townsend at the back.

The 30-year-old told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "I'm enjoying every minute of it.

"I don't mind playing centre-half. I'm a little small but I don't mind getting stuck in."

He added: "If Pits [boss Jamie Pitman] wants me to play there I'll happily play there."

The Bulls could only manage a draw with Cheltenham at home on Saturday but Green was encouraged by his side's performance.

"It was end to end and I think a draw was a fair result," he said.

"Kenny [Lunt] had a good chance. He's getting in positions and one will go in for him soon.

"Mathieu Manset is in great form. He's just got to keep doing what he's doing.

"He could be a Championship player if he keeps working hard.

"Cheltenham went for it in the second half. They pass it well and it's good for the fans to watch."
