Hereford in no rush over decision on new manager

Jamei Pitman
Pitman had a spell as assistant manager at Forest Green Rovers

Managerless Hereford United will not be rushed into a decision on who takes over in the Edgar Street hotseat.

Bulls chairman David Keyte has drawn up a shortlist but is now away in China for the rest of the week on business.

And caretaker boss Jamie Pitman will still be in charge of the Bulls for Saturday's trip to Northampton.

Although eight candidates have been interviewed by the Bulls board, the only confirmed applicant is former Port Vale and York City boss Martin Foyle.

"Martin Foyle was one of the people we have spoken to," Bulls chairman David Keyte told The Yorkshire Evening Press.

"We have finished our interviews now. And I will having a meeting with our vice-chairman Tim Russon today to discuss the candidates."

Keyte told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "We saw three people on Thursday and spoke to five on Sunday.

"The slight difficulty is that I am in China from Tuesday until Saturday and I actually miss the Northampton game.

"But these are only first interviews and I feel we do not have to rush anything."

Meanwhile, despite a solid performance under Pitman in Saturday's 1-1 home draw against League Two leaders Port Vale, his first game at the helm following last week's sacking of Simon Davey, the Bulls physio has not applied for the job.

But, having already become the fourth man in charge of picking the Bulls team in 2010, his work so far has not gone unnoticed.

"Jamie has not put in an official application," said Keyte. "But the team were greatly improved against Port Vale.

"They showed a lot of passion and enterprise and got the crowd behind them."
