Hereford United boss wants Lionel Ainsworth return
Lionel Ainsworth moved to Watford for a six-figure fee
Hereford United manager Simon Davey is keen to bring former Bulls winger Lionel Ainsworth back to Edgar Street.
The Bulls boss has confirmed he has had discussions with the 22-year-old's current club Huddersfield Town.
"I have spoken to them and also to Lionel's representatives and we are trying to sort something out but we are not quite there," he said.
"He is obviously somebody we would like to bring into the club but like many transfers there are complications."
Ainsworth first arrived at Edgar Street at the beginning of the 2007/08 season having been released by Derby County.
He quickly established himself in the Bulls first team and made an immediate impact, scoring a hat-trick in a Carling Cup win over Yeovil Town.
He followed that with a further hat-trick in a league match against Stockport County.
We are nearly there and it is now just fine tuning and getting the squad up to speed for the start of the season
Hereford manager Simon Davey
Watford signed him in January 2008 and he was loaned back to the Bulls for a brief spell before moving on to Huddersfield Town.
Dave told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "Hopefully we can get something done but if we don't we have got another one on the go as well.
"We are probably 95% down the road with that one and he is another wide player.
"So probably by Monday we should have another one in."
Davey says he is close to finalising his squad for the start of the League Two season.
"We're probably two or three players away from it and if we could get one or two of the wide players in over the weekend then we would be closer again," he said.
"We are nearly there and it is now just fine tuning and getting the squad up to speed for the start of the season."
