Midfielder Sam Gwynne signs new Hereford United deal

Hereford United midfielder Sam Gwynne has signed a one-year contract extension at Edgar Street.

Initially released at the end of last season, the 22-year-old's form in pre-season has led to a new deal.

"To be in trialist's kit and not in first team kit every day and not moan about it shows dedication," boss Simon Davey told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"He has demonstrated a hunger and desire to play for this football club and so deserves his contract."

Central defender Michael Townsend and striker Sam Malsom both signed new deals at the club last week and midfielder Daniel Stratford has also signed a one-year contract.

We've got the basis of a good squad to compete in this division so it is just a case now of adding the final touches.

Hereford boss Simon Davey

"What's pleasing to me is that they are three players who have been with us throughout the pre-season," he said.

"They are not coming in and are behind with the training programme - they have all started from day one.

"They have all earned themselves contracts and they are three players who will be competitive in this division," he added.

When Davey arrived at Edgar Street there were only six players under contract, but he is confident he will have a competitive squad in time for the opening game at Crewe Alexandra on 7 August.

"That will be 17 with Sam so there will be three more to go," he said

"I've definitely got three or four coming in on trial so it's not panic time.

"We've got the basis of a good squad to compete in this division so it is just a case now of adding the final touches."
