Herefordshire athlete Sarah Waldron ran a new personal best in finishing fourth in the 5,000 metres at the England Senior Championships at Gateshead.

The 22-year-old believes her time of 16.20 was further evidence of her return to form.

She said: "I'm very happy with the time and I know I have got a lot more inside me if I can get good conditions.

"But I really pleased to run a personal best in a championship race, especially at the end of the season."

After a frustrating season in 2009, in which a succession of injuries prevented her from ever really hitting top form, Waldron is now enjoying her running again.

Her personal best in Gateshead comes only a week after she posted a personal best in a road race in Blackburn.

"This season has been hard as I didn't have a cross-country or track base to build on from last year," she told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"But despite this it has been my most consistent season for a while, proving I have come back stronger from my injuries."
