FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Edgbaston: Warwickshire 112-4 (15 ovs) beat Worcestershire 103-7 off (15 ovs) by nine runs Match scorecard
Trott reached his 50 off the penultimate ball of the Warwickshire innings |
Worcestershire's slim chances of making it through to the FP t20 quarter-finals were finally ended by Warwickshire, who earned a home tie in the last eight. In a game reduced to 15 overs a side, Jonathan Trott's unbeaten 53 saw the home team reach a competitive 112-4. Worcestershire saw both captain Vikram Solanki and Sanath Jayasuriya dismissed first ball. Alex Kervezee (35) gave them hope, but after he holed out to Imran Tahir, the visitors' innings quickly subsided. After rain had delayed the start for over an hour, Warwickshire themselves made a poor start when Neil Carter chipped his first ball straight back into the hands of bowler Moeen Ali. Keith Barker was then caught at extra cover off the same bowler to reduce the hosts to 7-2. On a greenish wicket, Jim Troughton's 18 off 18 balls gave the Bears some momentum, before Darren Maddy joined Trott to build a partnership of 55 for the fourth wicket. Trott went on to reach his 50 off 37 balls, which included six fours. Moeen and Kervezee worked hard to rebuild the Worcestershire reply following the dismissals of Solanki, caught at backward point off Carter, and Jayasuriya, who pulled Chris Woakes to deep square leg. But once Moeen had been deceived by Barker's first, slower, ball, and Kervezee had hit Tahir to deep long-off, there was no way back for the visitors. Moeen was Barker's fourth wicket in four t20 deliveries - the left-arm seamer took a hat-trick to end Warwickshire's previous game against Yorkshire.
