Kervezee's maiden first-class century was against Derbyshire in May |
Alexei Kervezee hit his second first-class century of the season as Worcestershire fought back to secure a draw at Derbyshire. The visitors had looked in danger of suffering defeat, resuming the final day on 70-3, 56 runs behind the hosts. But Kervezee made a career-best 155 before the teams shook hands on the draw with Worcestershire on 328-6. Daryl Mitchell also kept the hosts' attack at bay with 71 in a five-and-a-half hour spell at the crease. The hosts will be left to rue their luck after Derbyshire's Greg Smith dropped Kervezee with the Netherlands international on 39. His fourth-wicket partnership with Mitchell proved crucial for the visitors as the pair put on 181 runs in 54 overs before the Worcestershire opener was caught by Smith off Mark Footitt. Footitt also had a hand in the removal of Kervezee, catching the 20-year-old at deep mid-wicket as Chesney Hughes, one of nine bowlers used in the innings, claimed his maiden first-class wicket. Worcestershire captain Vikram Solanki finally declared with his side 202 runs ahead to leave them with seven Championship points and Derbyshire with nine.
