COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Derby: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Worcestershire 279, Derbyshire 43-0 Derbys 3pts, Worcs 2pts Match scorecard
Shakib was replaced as Bangladesh captain by Mashrafe Mortaza in June |
Worcestershire were indebted to Shakib Al Hasan and James Cameron as they struggled to 279 all out on day one against Derbyshire. After the visitors won the toss, Tim Groenewald (3-65) took three wickets to reduce them to 106-5. But debutant Shakib (90) and Cameron (89) shared a sixth-wicket stand of 101 to steer them away from trouble. Cameron was the last man to fall, after which Derbyshire moved to 43-0 by the close, a deficit of 236. Former Bangladesh captain Shakib and Cameron put on 101 in just 16 overs with the Worcestershire new-boy reaching his 90 off 82 balls. His innings, which had included 16 fours, came to an end when he was caught behind by Lee Goddard off Greg Smith three overs before tea. Cameron, who was playing only his third first-class match, passed his previous best high score before being caught at long-on off Robin Peterson to be the last Worcestershire wicket to fall.
