Morecambe drop interest in Gash

Ebbsfleet United

Morecambe have ended their interest in Ebbsfleet striker Michael Gash after having a £42,000 bid rejected by an internet vote held by Fleet's owners.

The offer was £12,000 more than Luton Town tabled last week for the 22-year-old who scored 12 goals last season.

Shrimps vice-chairman Graham Hodgson said: "We will not go any higher and will turn our attention elsewhere.

"We think it's a substantial bid but Ebbsfleet have told us they are not prepared to sell."

He added: "We want to assure fans that we are working hard behind the scenes to bring in quality players to the club this summer."

Fleet are owned by MyFootballClub, an internet subscription website, who hold votes on issues such as potential transfers in and out, and manager's contracts.

Of the 2,188 members who voted in the latest poll, only 164 were in favour, and 22 people abstained.

A previous bid of £30,000 from the Hatters for the former Cambridge City striker had been overwhelmingly rejected on Friday.

In that vote, 250 (8.82%) of the 2,835 members agreed to sell Gash, while 37 (1.31%) abstained.

Gash, top scorer for the Fleet last season with 12 goals from 51 games in all competitions, was originally signed using money raised by MyFootballClub members and fans.

Ebbsfleet members had previously rejected York City's £10,000 approach for Darius Charles on Thursday.

The vote on York's bid for Charles was held over 24 hours with 1977 (97%) fans rejecting the move and only 60 (2.94%) agreeing to accept.
