Fleet boss slams fixture pile-up

Liam Daish
Daish's Ebbsfleet currently lie 19th in the Blue Square Premier

Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish has hit out at the Blue Square Premier over their fixture backlog that will see his side play 11 games in 25 days.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "It's not fair and it's been no fault of our own.

"I don't think any team should be asked to play that amount of fixtures in such a short space of time."

Daish's side travel to Eastbourne Borough on Thursday with a much depleted squad, looking to pull further away from the relegation zone.

Derek Duncan, Giuseppe Sole, and Luis Cumbers are out injured, while Mark Ricketts faces a late fitness test.

"You've got to look after players and at least let them recover," Daish said.

"I've been in situations before as a player, but never as horrendous as what we're in at the moment.

"I don't think at this level any side should not be playing on a Saturday.

"If you look through the fixtures the league set, there's free Saturdays.

"They've added another competition and it's not been managed well enough."
