Fleet boss slams fixture schedule

Liam Daish
Daish thinks players need longer to recover between their fixtures

Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish has criticised the Blue Square Premier for not allowing them to switch Saturday's game at Altrincham to Friday.

It means Ebbsfleet will have just over 48 hours before their next game, on Monday evening against Histon, and that includes a 200-mile trip home.

Daish told BBC Radio Kent it would not happen to a Premier League club.

"Players are full-time. Whether they're at Manchester United or Ebbsfleet they should get the same recovery," he said.

"There's no manoeuvrability from fixtures on a Saturday going into the television game on the Monday.

"I think it's 51 hours between our matches.

"But you've got to bare in mind the long trip. We're on the coach Friday and then on Sunday we'll be in again training."
