Charlton 0-2 Bristol City

Goals from Lee Trundle and Gavin Williams gave Bristol City a deserved win against Charlton at the Valley.

Luke Varney, Andy Gray and Hameur Bouazza fluffed chances for Charlton before Trundle picked up Dele Adebola's pass to drill home in the 27th minute.

City's Lee Johnson saw a low shot well saved by Nicky Weaver as the visitors began to take control after the break.

And on 52 minutes Williams spun superbly in a packed area to sweep the ball home for his first ever City goal.

Charlton boss Alan Pardew laid into his side in a 45-minute dressing down after their defeat:

"In terms of consistency and levels of performance, I am beginning to wonder if it is ever going to come from some members of this side.

"I have voiced that to them. There will some fresh faces coming in, either from within the squad or elsewhere.

"We were open and erratic as a team and that is not the sort of team I want to manage. I can't accept that."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson:

"It's difficult to have sympathy for other managers.

"But Alan is a very good manager with a good team. If they had won we'd be level with us, there's not a lot of difference between top and bottom.

"A couple of wins and you are back up there. Alan knows that and he's the man to do it."

"But I'm excited by our performance. Psychologically it's nice to be above the line again."
