"I've already received in excess of 30 applications and expect plenty more because we're talking about a very attractive job at an ambitious club," he said.
"I've set no time limits but I'm keen to get the position sorted as soon as possible."
BBC Radio Kent can confirm one of the applicants is the former Barnet, Brentford, Leicester and Cheltenham manager Martin Allen.
Scally insisted that finances were not a major issue, despite the club's relegation.
"There is not a massive difference financially between Leagues One and Two after the Football League agreed this week to proposals put to them by the Premier League.
"But we needed to be in League One pushing for the Championship not in League Two pushing for League One."
