Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson has resigned, after they lost five of their first six games of the season. The former Burnley coach offered his resignation to chairman Paul Scally on Sunday morning, following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Southend.
The Gills are third from bottom of League One after taking just three points from five league matches.
Jepson had been in charge of the Kent club since November 2005 when he replaced Neale Cooper as manager.
They finished 14th and 16th in League One during his two years in charge.

But last weekend's 2-1 win over Walsall has been their only success of this season. Jepson previously served Gillingham as assistant manager to Cooper and Stan Ternent, having been coach under Ternent at Burnley.
Huddersfield were denied permission to speak to him about their managerial vacancy in March 2007.
As a player, he spent three years with Huddersfield, while also playing for Port Vale, Peterborough, Preston, Exeter, Bury, Oldham and Burnley.
