Southend eased to victory after easily brushing aside Gillingham. The home side took the lead when Nicky Bailey brought the ball from his own half and swapped passes with Leon Clarke before rifling a left-foot shot.
Alan McCormack fired in a shot from just inside the box on the stroke of half time to double Southend's lead.
McCormack then played a one-two with Clarke, who delayed his shot before cheekily chipping the advancing keep Simon Royce to complete the win.
