Stimson took his side back into League One with promotion last season

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has criticised referee Karl Evans for not sending off his own player at Walsall.

Stimson was expecting winger Dennis Oli to receive a second yellow card in the second half of their 0-0 draw at the Banks's Stadium for a bad challenge.

Stimson said: "I think Dennis was fortunate to stay on the pitch. I think he got that one wrong.

"Dennis Oli should have been sent off for a second yellow - don't ask me why he didn't but obviously I'm pleased."

Stimson implied the incident would contribute to him giving the referee a low mark in his match report.

He added: "I had a little debate with the referee and I said we have to mark you referees in loads of different areas."
