Gillingham defender John Nutter has signed a new one-year contract with the Medway club.
The 26-year-old was an integral part of Mark Stimson's promotion-winning side, missing just one game as they returned to League One via the play-offs.
Nutter is recovering from hernia surgery but hopes be fit to return for pre-season in just four weeks.
He told the club's website: "The stitches are still a bit tight but the physio says I should be back in time."
Stimson has also confirmed he has held talks with midfielder Kevin Maher about a possible return to Priestfield.
The 32-year-old spent a brief spell on loan at Gillingham during the 2007-08 season.
Despite Stimson's attempts to lure him to Kent, Maher chose to join Oldham instead. But he is again a free agent.
"I have already had talks with Kevin Maher and we are waiting to hear back from him," said Stimson.
Gillingham have confirmed nine friendlies, all away to non-league teams, starting with Tonbridge on 11 July.
