Stimson targets four new players

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson believes he only needs a few new players to make his side competitive in League One.

Stimson released eight players in the wake of leading the Gills to promotion.

Defender John Nutter and goalkeeper Simon Royce have both been offered new contracts, while negotiations are on-going with midfielder Andy Barcham.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "To compete next year is going to be a challenge and I think we need three or four players to add to the squad we've got."

He added: "I do class Andy Barcham as one of them so if he was to sign then that might be just down to two more.

"I'm sure by the time we get back to pre-season we'll have one or two new faces to help the group that has already got us back into Division One."
